a year ago The last time my AC had problems, the tech came out and replaced two fuses and charged me $150. That was OK because it was 100F and the family was having a bad day. Well the tech I used last time decided it was his time to retire. Good for him. Not so good for me, so I thought. I pulled the fuses and went to Vinje & Son Inc. and got new fuses. The folks in the store told me that it was common for capacitors to also go out and showed me what to look for. I went home, replaced the fuses and the AC did not work. I found the capacitor, sent a picture and they had one in stock. They showed me how to replace and test it....and now my wife and kids are happy. THANKS Again. Roger Herb
a year ago Awesome local shop for DIYer's to get parts and knowledge that cannot be purchased through contractor only HVAC suppliers in area. Got a run capacitor for outdoor compressor unit and had family back in AC in less than 30 minutes. Ethan Benatan
3 years ago These folks rock. After having a series of "experts" charge me thousands to not fix my heating problems, I decided to do it myself. I'm a seasoned DIY-er, but not familiar with HVAC. Craig and the others at Vinje/Do-it-yourself were friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and relaxed. They helped me design a solution, provided the gear and info I needed, and quickly answered emails and phone calls when I had a detailed question. They also cheerfully accommodated my special requests. I recommend them highly! Joy Ross

2 years ago I am extremely satisfied with Vinje and Son. The prices were very reasonable. I have been in construction almost 20 years and I can tell you that the prices are very close to what you would pay even if you could go out and buy at wholesale. I have heard of buying online but that is always a nightmare. Your equipment could be damaged in transit, you could get an aftermarket unit or a host of other problems. When you buy from Vinje and Son you get to inspect the unit in person before you accept the product and you get hands on in store advice for the best installation methods. I had a very difficult install to work around with the previous installation from a "professional" being done incorrectly. I was able to bring in photos on my phone and drawings and measurements and they were able to help me determine the best duct sizing for me to install. They were extremely prompt with their delivery of the duct and always went out of the way to help with everything. I just finished my install a couple of weeks ago, and the difference with the new system is amazing. I am very happy with this company and would recommend them to anyone and will definitely return there for any future HVAC needs. Thanks again Vinje and Son. Chris L.
These guys are great! Although this is a "do it yourself " type store, the staff is super helpful! Craig understood our needs and was really knowledgable with everything. We were able to move our gas furnace and all duct work from the basement to the attic. Thanks again for your help!! Justin T.
After having a contractor look at my duct work in order to provide a quote for duct sealing and duct insulation. He couldn't do the test that would validate the measure for the EnergyTrust and Department of Energy credits and he explained why he didn't believe in the process. Realizing that I could do it all myself for a tenth of the cost even with the credits I decided to go out to the only place I knew about to get the materials and that place was Vinje & Son. I will be heading back when I get to the projects where I need some custom ductwork or at least the parts for me to assemble. That's one of the benefits of going to Vinje & Son, you get the advice on doing a project yourself or they can help you out a little more. |

a year ago We purchased a new furnace from Vinje about 5 or 6 years ago. They made it super easy to install ourselves. This weekend, in the middle of winter, that furnace quit working. In less than an hour, Vinje's amazing employees totally walked me through diagnosing the problem and fixing it--saving me some serious money. Thanks, guys. You totally rock. Steve Schoellkopf
a year ago I called Vinje & Son last Thursday after several frustrating experiences with HVAC sales people. I spoke with Craig and in half an hour he went over the dimensions and specs with me, I ordered a furnace, picked it up the next day and installed it in a day and a half at my leisure. If you are handy at all don't be afraid to do this. When I picked the furnace up Craig took the time to answer all my questions and go over the finer points of installation. Plus I saved over $2000.00 easy and my wife is warm again. Well worth the time and effort. Satisfied Steve John Cranford
a year ago Emailed Craig for a custom magnetic board I was creating for my office. They were prompt with their responses and patient while I waited to hear back from a local powder coat company. 2 years ago I'm in the process of installing a furnace at my church. I contacted Vinje & Son to help me with the project. I found the customer service to be OUTSTANDING! They have exceeded my expectations in everyway. The person I worked with knows all the details about each step for installing a furnace. He designed the transition pieces to match perfectly with the existing ductwork. It looks awesome. On top have having great service, their cost for parts and service is by far the best in town. 2 years ago I just finished installing the furnace I purchased from Vinje & Son. It was a great experience and I highly recommend Vinje & Son. I got four bids and doing it myself was 40% cheaper. The Vinje & Son team walked me thru the entire installation process. They custom fabricated my sheet metal duct transition pieces and answered any questions I had. I had the installation inspected by the city and the inspector was surprised more people weren't installing their own furnaces. He said it's not rocket science. CONNIE CASSADY

a month ago These guys are great! My furnace stopped blowing heat. I contacted 5 HVAC companies. Only two responded/answered and they were both booked out for a week. Vinje & Son had the part I needed in stock so I could get the furnace working again the same day for a lot less than I would have paid an HVAC company. I didn't think DIY HVAC was realistic. Now that I know it is, I'll be contacting these guys again so they can help me make more changes and upgrades in the future! George Greenwald

a year ago my thanks to the staff @ V & S for your expert guidance & understanding for the proper set up I needed in order to install a new RHEM furnace.. when I came in with measurements & photos you were still able to correct my errors & set me up with ALL the materials needed. Craig definitely knows the business & sure made installation a breeze. When the gas company came out & did a safety inspection they said we "Did a good job & made a good choice of furnace." they also stated I saved over $2,000 by doing it myself.. Greg Lind
6 months ago Yesterday was Thursday and the AC stopped working. Today will be 84, then mid 90s this weekend. Family. On. Edge. With the help YouTube and other sites I was able to diagnose the issue: the capacitor was shot. It was swollen on top like an aluminum can... I was at Vinje & Sons this morning when they opened at 8:00. I told them about my Trane XR13 and its failed GE 97F9899 capacitor (35/5 uf, 50/60Hz, 440VAC in case you need to know) and I had a new one in my hand in 30 seconds. Maybe less time than that. Seriously. I couldn't believe it. So I drove home, slapped it in, and the AC fired right up. I get to be hero for the day. Maybe I can stretch that out for the whole weekend...Thank you for having great stock, great hours, and being there for fellas like me! A Google User

We purchased a furnace for our beach cabin and installed it ourselves, as the price was very reasonable. Of course because we did ourselves not everything work out like it should have. I went back 8 months later with questions and looking for solutions. They had all of my original papers and estimates and how we were to put it in etc. They spent about 45 minutes with me and went over everything for me to understand. I have never had a retail experience like that, that I can remember, it was fantastic. The best! I normally don't contribute comments, but had to after this experience. Larry Miller

They sold me a furnace and guided me through installing it per Oregon state code. They are A+. The service man was Clyde. I never thought I could do anything this technical. Of all the work in this house, my work was the only one to pass the state code. Only because of Clyde's help. I only spent a third of the cost. They provided information for me to get what I needed. ...Sometimes you just need to dig into a project yourself, do it inexpensively and just do a small change or forget the subsidies. To do that Vinje has items that the big box home improvement stores do not. So if you need to dig into heat- cool- duct- ing, Vinje should be on your short list. Roger Herb
